PITTSBURGH (AP) -Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson will remain out of the lineup for at least two more weeks with a strained left calf that has sidelined him for all but three games.
Wilson was expected to begin a rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Altoona last weekend, but the injury flared up again at the team’s extended spring training camp in Bradenton, Fla.
Wilson is not yet ready to begin that rehabilitation assignment and, when he does, his extended time off may require him to play as much as a week in the minors. He last played with Pittsburgh on April 3.
This week, Wilson is hitting off a tee at the extended spring camp but is not playing in any games.
Without Wilson, the Pirates have had one of the NL’s worst defenses, with 24 of the team’s 32 errors committed by infielders.
