KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Kansas City Royals activated All-Star closer Greg Holland from the disabled list and optioned reliever Yohan Pino to Triple-A Omaha before their game Wednesday night against Cleveland.
Holland had been out since April 18, the day after picking up his fourth save of the season, so that he could rest a chest muscle that had been causing him problems for a while.
Since the start of 2013, Holland has 97 saves – the most in the American League.
Wade Davis has been serving as the closer in his absence, and has racked up six saves this season. He will return to his role handling the eighth inning.
Pino had not allowed a run in four games covering 10 2-3 innings.
