NEW YORK (AP) -Boston first baseman Kevin Youkilis was out of the starting lineup for the series finale against the New York Yankees on Tuesday night because of tightness in his left side.
Youkilis left Monday night’s game in the sixth inning because of the injury. He hoped to return Wednesday against Cleveland at Fenway Park but wasn’t sure.
“Hopefully, it will be all right,” he said.
Youkilis said the injury had bothered him for a while but that he wasn’t sure how he got hurt. He thinks he tightened up because the Red Sox were given only about 30 minutes’ notice that Monday’s game was going to start after a rain delay, instead of the usual 45.
“He’s sore, a little tender,” Red Sox manager Terry Francona said before Tuesday night’s game against New York. “I guess that’s better than being hurt and grimacing.”
