LOS ANGELES (AP) -The Arizona Diamondbacks turned the second triple play in franchise history during the second inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Russell Martin drew a walk and Matt Kemp hit a routine grounder to shortstop that Josh Wilson bobbled for an error in his haste to start a double play. All hands were safe, but Wilson then made a lunging catch of Casey Blake’s line drive in the hole on Doug Davis’ 3-2 pitch with the runners going. Wilson threw to second baseman Felipe Lopez, who relayed to Conor Jackson at first.
The Diamondbacks’ only other triple play was on May 31, 2000, against St. Louis. It was the first time the Dodgers hit into one since Aug. 4, 1991, at Houston.
