A look at what’s happening all around the major leagues Monday:
—
IN ORBIT
The Astros go for their 11th straight win when they host Texas. Dallas Keuchel (3-0, 0.73 ERA) starts for Houston, which is enjoying its best run since a 12-game victory streak in 2004. Evan Gattis has been providing plenty of pop, homering five times in six games.
CENTURY MARK
Dodgers star Clayton Kershaw makes his third attempt at his 100th regular-season victory when he starts at Milwaukee. The reigning NL MVP and three-time Cy Young Award winner is 4-0 with an 0.87 ERA in four starts at Miller Park. He is 99-51 overall in the regular season.
STARTING UP
Josh Hamilton is scheduled to play in his first game this season, at extended spring training for the Rangers in Surprise, Arizona. Texas re-acquired the former AL MVP from the Angels last week. He’s been sidelined this year while recovering from shoulder surgery.
EXTRA SPECIAL
The Cardinals are home to face the Cubs after an extra special weekend at Busch Stadium. St. Louis swept a three-game series from the Pirates, winning each time in extra innings. Carlos Martinez (3-0) starts vs. Chicago.
KING SIZE
Mariners ace Felix Hernandez (4-0, 1.82 ERA) tries to beat the Angels for the sixth time in a row. He’ll start in Anaheim, where he is 3-5 lifetime and has just one decision in his last seven outings.
CAPITOLIZING
Giancarlo Stanton leads all visiting players with 14 home runs at Nationals Park. He’ll get a chance to add to that total when Miami begins a 10-game trip in Washington. Marlins leadoff hitter Dee Gordon will likely be back in the lineup. The leading hitter in the majors at .440, Gordon was given a day off Sunday after six straight multihit games.
NO CONTEST
Rays rookie manager Kevin Cash might get another chance to get it right on replay challenges. He is 0 for 10 this season going into the series opener vs. Boston at Fenway Park.
