TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) – Detroit Tigers starter Dontrelle Willis threw 72 pitches on Friday in his first rehab start with Triple-A Toledo since going on the disabled list April 12 with a hyperextended right knee.
The left-hander (0-1, 3.86 ERA) gave up two earned runs on four hits, struck out four with no walks in 4 2-3 innings in Toledo’s 6-4 loss to the Rochester Red Wings. He threw 51 strikes and 21 balls.
The All-Star with the Marlins injured the knee on April 11 in his second start of the season when he slipped off the mound against the Chicago White Sox.
Willis joined the Tigers this year along with Miguel Cabrera in a trade with Florida.
