NEW YORK (AP) -Moises Alou was in the New York Mets’ lineup for Tuesday night’s game against the Florida Marlins after an MRI exam on his injured shoulder found no structural damage.
Alou originally hurt his right shoulder in Saturday’s win at Washington and irritated it again when the left fielder banged into the wall trying to catch Jason Wood’s RBI double in the eighth inning of Monday night’s 9-6 loss to the Marlins.
Alou was replaced by Endy Chavez in the ninth but said he felt great Tuesday.
“Everything’s fine and I just have to work on getting it strong,” he said.
Alou was diagnosed with irritation in the shoulder capsule. He also had an MRI on his arthritic left knee which turned out OK.
“Two for Tuesday,” Alou joked about the two exams.
It was welcome news for the Mets, who put second baseman Jose Valentin and right-hander Orlando Hernandez on the disabled list Monday.
Alou entered Tuesday night’s game with a .349 batting average, two homers and 11 RBIs.
