BALTIMORE (AP) -The Orioles put right-handed pitcher Jaret Wright on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a recurrence of soreness in his right shoulder.
Baltimore recalled lefty Birkins from Triple-A Norfolk. He was expected to join the Orioles on Monday night in Detroit.
Wright felt soreness April 10 during a start against Detroit and was put the 15-day DL on April 12 (retroactive to April 11).
The team activated him Sunday and he started at Cleveland, but experienced a recurrence of the problem. Wright took the 6-1 loss in three innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks.
Birkins was recalled earlier this season, on April 8, and was with the Orioles until April 16. He appeared in one game, taking a loss and allowing a grand slam to Craig Monroe in a 12-inning loss April 11 to Detroit.
