BOSTON (AP) -The Boston Red Sox have recalled right-hander Michael Bowden from Pawtucket and optioned infielder Gil Velazquez to the Triple-A team.
The 22-year-old Bowden was called up before Sunday night’s game against the New York Yankees. He was 1-0 with an 0.64 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 14 innings in three starts at Pawtucket. His only major league appearance came last Aug. 30 when he allowed two runs in five innings against the Chicago White Sox.
Velazquez played in five games with Boston, going 0-for-2, after being called up on April 13. He hit .222 in four games with Pawtucket this season.
