PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) -Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell went 1-for-5 with a two-run single in a rehabilitation start with Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday night.
Lowell went on the disabled list April 10 after spraining his left thumb diving for a groundball against Detroit. He served as the designated hitter in the first of three planned rehab outings for Boston’s top minor league club.
Lowell is scheduled to play third base Saturday night and then DH on Sunday against the Bisons.
The 2007 World Series MVP, Lowell was hitting .200 (6-for-30) in nine games before his injury.
Pawtucket defeated Syracuse 6-1 in an International League game.
