A look at what’s happening all around the major leagues Thursday:
—
READY FOR A RECORD
The New York Mets will try to tie the team record of 11 straight wins. Bartolo Colon starts against Atlanta as the Mets attempt to match the club mark done four times, most recently in 1990. New York is 9-0 at Citi Field this year.
COOL DOWN
Young Royals ace Yordano Ventura will try to keep his composure when he starts in Chicago vs. the White Sox. After his last start, he was fined by Major League Baseball for hitting Oakland’s Brett Lawrie with a pitch. In his start before that, he got into a verbal battle with Angels star Mike Trout.
SEEING RED
Nationals ace Max Scherzer starts against the visiting Cardinals. He’s from St. Louis and has never beaten his hometown team – Scherzer is 0-1 in two games against them, most recently in 2009.
FEELING BETTER?
Blue Jays star Jose Bautista won’t play the outfield against Baltimore in the series finale. He strained his right shoulder earlier this week making an ill-advised throw from right field trying to get an Orioles batter at first base on a single.
FLEETING FLURRIES
The afternoon forecast calls for partly cloudy and temperatures in the upper 40s at Comerica Park when Detroit hosts the Yankees. That’ll be a nice change from Wednesday night, when there were snow flurries at the start of the game.
