CINCINNATI (AP) -Milwaukee’s Ben Sheets left the game against the Cincinnati Reds after only five innings Friday night because of tightness in his right triceps.
Sheets allowed two singles in five innings, leaving with the Brewers ahead 5-0. The 29-year-old pitcher is off to one of the best starts of his career, one that might have hit a snag because of another injury.
Sheets was coming off a dominating 5-3 win over the Mets and Johan Santana on Sunday, when he retired 18 batters in a row over one stretch. None of the Reds reached second base while he was in the game Friday. Sheets struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.
He left the game for a pinch-hitter after only 60 pitches, 39 of them strikes.
In four starts, Sheets has allowed only three earned runs in 28 innings.
