ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Rangers starter Kevin Millwood left Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels after five innings because of a bruised left shin.
Millwood was hit in the second inning by a ball hit by Maicer Izturis. The ball ricocheted off Millwood’s leg and rolled to first base, where Ben Broussard picked it up for an easy out. At the time, Millwood didn’t appear to be hurt, and was smiling when Texas manager Ron Washington came to the mound to check on him.
The Rangers said Millwood came out of the game after his leg started to stiffen up on him. The right-hander allowed four runs and nine hits with one walk and one strikeout. He threw 70 pitches.
Millwood was also hit on the throwing hand by a batted ball, when he reached up attempting to grab a ball in the fourth that turned into a groundout. That play came between a single by Anderson and Casey Kotchman’s two-run homer.
