ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -New York Yankees pitcher Ian Kennedy was hit on the right hip by a line drive Monday night and left his start against Tampa Bay in the seventh inning.
Kennedy was struck by Jason Bartlett’s liner. He recovered to pick up the ball near the mound, but Bartlett beat the pitcher’s throw to first for an infield hit.
Billy Traber replaced a hobbling Kennedy, who appeared to be in pain as he walked off the field. The right-hander departed with a 7-2 lead, but the Rays rallied against New York’s bullpen to tie it at 7 and leave Kennedy with a no-decision.
