ST. LOUIS (AP) -Third baseman Andy LaRoche is not in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ lineup, a day after he dropped a pop-up for his third error in the first two games of the season.
Ramon Vazquez started in place of LaRoche, who’s also 0-for-6 at the plate against the St. Louis Cardinals.
LaRoche batted only .152 in 49 games with the Pirates last year after being acquired from the Dodgers as part of a three-team, six-player deadline deal that sent Manny Ramirez from Boston to Los Angeles.
LaRoche, the younger brother of Pirates first baseman Adam, batted .333 with two homers and eight RBIs in 22 spring games.
Vazquez started 60 games at third base last year for the Rangers. He signed a free-agent deal with the Pirates in December.
