KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -Derek Jeter was out of the New York Yankees’ starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals, one day after straining his left quadriceps.
Wilson Betemit started at shortstop in place of Jeter, who was hurt during Monday night’s game against Tampa Bay.
Before receiving treatment Tuesday, Jeter said he thought the injury wasn’t that serious.
New York began a stretch in which it will play 18 of 20 games on the road.
