SAN DIEGO (AP) -Center fielder Jim Edmonds was activated from the 15-day disabled list Saturday and made his first start for the San Diego Padres.
Edmonds singled in his first at-bat and scored during the Padres' four-run first inning against Los Angeles Dodgers starter Brad Penny.
To make room on the roster, outfielder Jody Gerut was optioned to Triple-A Portland.
The 37-year-old Edmonds was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals along with $2 million on Dec. 15 for third baseman David Freese. He strained his right calf on March 6 in a spring training game.
