VIERA, Fla. (AP) -Washington Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young will start the season on the 15-day disabled list.
Young goes on the DL Thursday with hip and back injuries. The move is retroactive to Wednesday.
The Nationals also are putting starting second baseman Anderson Hernandez on the 15-day DL, retroactive to March 27. Hernandez has a strained left hamstring.
The Nationals already had announced Hernandez would miss the start of the season. Ronnie Belliard is expected to start at second base while Hernandez is out.
