PHOENIX (AP) -Oakland right-hander Justin Duchscherer will rest his sore elbow until next week after a second medical opinion confirmed swelling in the area.
The two-time All-Star was examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum in the Los Angeles area on Thursday following an MRI earlier in the week.
Duchscherer, projected as the A’s opening-day starter, will receive anti-inflammatory treatments and is to throw on flat ground Monday. He has yet to appear in a spring training game.
He was 10-8 with a 2.54 ERA in his first year as a starter with the A’s, and pitched in the All-Star game. He was also an All-Star in 2005 as a reliever.
