WASHINGTON (AP) -There will be no home runs from Ryan Zimmerman in the first game at the Washington Nationals new ballpark.
The Nationals announced Friday that George Washington will play St. Joseph’s on March 22 in the first sporting event at their 41,000-seat stadium. The Atlantic 10 Conference game will serve as a test run for the facility, with tickets handled through George Washington University and not available to the general public.
The Nationals will play their first game at the ballpark on March 29, an exhibition against the Baltimore Orioles. The regular season opener comes a day later in a nationally televised Sunday night game against the Atlanta Braves.
George Washington also helped launch Washington baseball’s previous home 47 years ago. The Colonials hosted VMI in the dedication game at D.C. Stadium – now RFK Stadium – on Oct. 7, 1961.
