BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) – Pittsburgh Pirates star centerfielder Andrew McCutchen is eyeing another step forward in 2015.
McCutchen says the rest of the National League knows the Pirates are ”for real” after consecutive playoff berths in 2013 and 2014. The 2013 National League Most Valuable Player says it’s time for the Pirates to more than just earn a wild card spot.
McCutchen says he and Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco make up the best outfield in the majors. Their success will be a key factor if the Pirates want to unseat the St. Louis Cardinals atop the NL Central.
Though McCutchen has three years remaining on his current contract, owner Bob Nutting says the team is mulling putting together a lengthy extension. Nutting said he wants to see McCutchen in Pittsburgh for ”a long, long time.”
