CLEVELAND (AP) -Frank Viola, who won the AL Cy Young Award in 1988 with Minnesota, will work with Cleveland’s pitchers at training camp this spring.
Viola will assist Indians pitching coach Carl Willis and worked with the club’s starting left-handers. The 48-year-old Viola was a teammate of Cleveland manager Eric Wedge in 1992 with Boston.
Viola won 176 games in 15 major league seasons with Minnesota, the New York Mets, Boston, Cincinnati and Toronto from 1982-96.
He went 24-7 with a 2.64 ERA in 1988 for the Twins. Viola was a three-time All-Star and won at least 10 games in 10 consecutive seasons from 1984-93. He won 20 for the Mets in 1990.
