BOSTON (AP) -Bobby Kielty is getting a chance to play for the Red Sox again.
The reserve outfielder, who homered for Boston in the clinching game of last year’s World Series, agreed to a minor league contract Wednesday with an invitation to Red Sox spring training camp.
The 31-year-old Kielty batted .218 with one homer and 12 RBIs in 33 games with Oakland and Boston last season after missing most of spring training with torn cartilage in his left knee. He was released by the Athletics on July 31 and signed by the Red Sox a week later.
He was promoted from Triple-A Pawtucket to Boston on Aug. 18 and played in just 20 games before going 3-for-3 in the postseason, including a pinch-hit homer in Game 4 of the World Series to help the Red Sox complete their sweep of the Colorado Rockies.
Kielty is a .254 career hitter with 53 homers and 253 RBIs with Minnesota, Toronto, Oakland and Boston.
