NEW YORK (AP) Pitcher Ivan Nova and the New York Yankees have agreed to a $4.1 million, one-year contract and avoided salary arbitration.
The agreement Thursday was $100,000 under the midpoint between the $4.6 million Nova had asked for in arbitration and the $3.8 million he had been offered. He can make $100,000 in performance bonuses.
The 29-year-old right-hander returned to the Yankees on June 24 after Tommy John surgery and went 6-11 with a 5.07 ERA in 17 starts. He is 46-33 with a 4.33 ERA in parts of six major league seasons and can become a free agent after this year’s World Series.
Nova had a $3.3 million salary in each of the last two seasons.
