Chicago Cubs Fantasy Spin
Javier Baez went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in a win over the Cardinals on Wednesday. He lofted a blooper down the left field line in the eighth inning that was initially ruled a foul ball. It was overturned on replay and ended up being a ground-rule double. He came around to score on a throwing error by catcher Matt Wieters. The stolen base was the eighth of the season for Baez. He will likely fall short of the numbers he put up last year but he is still having another monster fantasy campaign. He is slashing .285/.318/.540 with 25 home runs, 69 RBI and 73 runs scored in 105 games.
St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles as his team lost to the Cubs on Wednesday. Goldschmidt has been on quite a roll of late and tonight was no exception. Unfortunately his prowess at the dish didn’t translate into runs on the scoreboard. The Cardinals got nine hits in the contest but failed to score. Goldschmidt’s fantasy owners drafted him expecting MVP-caliber stats but were sorely disappointed in the first half of the season. He has turned things on in a big way the last few weeks and has his batting line up to .260/.341/.478 with 25 home runs, 58 RBI and 66 runs scored in 453 plate appearances.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 36-17 in Jon Lester’s last 53 starts overall but they’ve lost five of his last six outings on the road.
St. Louis
The Cardinals have dropped five of Jack Flaherty’s last seven starts overall and are just 2-5 in his last seven outings from Busch Stadium.
Prediction:
The over is 5-1 in Lester’s last six starts versus the Cardinals and is 4-1 in Flaherty’s last five outings versus the Cubs. The over is also 13-4 in Lester’s last 17 road starts and has cashed in 12 of his last 17 outings following a quality start in his last appearance. On the other side, the over is 5-1 in Flaherty’s last six starts coming off five days of rest and is 12-4 in his last 16 outings when facing a team with a winning record.
MLB Prediction: Cubs/Cardinals OVER 8.5
