Nats favored to win NL East at break
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – The Nationals are the clear favorite to win the NL East at the MLB All-Star Break.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Nationals are 1/7 favorites to win the National League East while the Mets have the next best odds at 7/2. The Braves, meanwhile, are 20/1 while the Marlins are 50/1 and the Phillies are massive long shots at 500/1.
At the break Washington is two games up on New York in the division and have the only positive run differential of the five teams at +36. The Mets have an outstanding young pitching staff led by Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey, but the team is 28th in runs, 30th in batting average, 26th in on-base percentage and 29th in slugging. It would be an understatement to say the Mets’ offense is feeble.
The Nationals are loaded with talent, starting with Cy Yong contender Max Scherzer and MVP candidate Bryce Harper, but the club’s defense has been brutal and health will remain a concern for guys like Stephen Strasburg. That said, the Nats should hold off the Mets to win the division and head back to the postseason.
