Marlins drop first two
Miami opened the series on Tuesday with a 3-2 loss at Washington and then lost 3-1 on Wednesday night. The Marlins are 32-52 overall, 17-23 on the road and 42-38 with the under. Miami has Elieser Hernandez on the mound today. He is 1-2 on the season with a 4.07 ERA.
Miami continue to flame out at the plate in this series, scoring just one run in the ninth inning on Wednesday. The team had six hits for the contest. Cesar Puello drove in the lone run while Miguel Rojas had two of the team’s six hits. Sandy Alcantara pitched respectably, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing just two runs on four hits with five strikeouts on four walks. He still took the loss to fall to 4-8 on the year.
Nats keep rolling
Washington has won seven of its last eight games thanks to the first two wins in this series against the Marlins. The Nationals are now 44-41 on the season, 23-19 at home and 42-37 with the over. Washington has Anibal Sanchez getting the start this morning. He is 4-6 on the season with a 3.82 ERA.
Stephen Strasburg had arguably his best start of the year on Wednesday. Strasburg recorded 14 strikeouts in 7.1 innings and allowed no runs on two hits to get the win. He is now 10-4 on the year. Sean Doolittle got his 19th save despite allowing the lone run to the Marlins. At the plate, Brian Dozier had a double and a home run while driving in two to lead Washington in the win. Matt Adams drove in the other run.
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins are just 22-49 in their last 71 road games and 2-6 in their last eight games on grass.
Washington
The Nationals have won seven of their last nine home games and 14 of their last 17 against NL East opponents.
Prediction:
Miami’s bats have been absent for most of this series and Washington has gotten by with some lackluster hitting because of it. I think Miami’s hitting struggles will continue today as Sanchez has been pitching quite well lately. Over his last six starts, Sanchez has allowed two runs or less in all but one. His walk numbers have been dwindled down as well. Hernandez hasn’t been bad on the mound, but he isn’t getting deep into games and still giving up multiple runs in all his outings. Just that small amount of damage may be all Washington needs today.
MLB Prediction: Washington Nationals -205
