Jimenez homers twice in win
Chicago cruised to a 9-4 victory Wednesday night at Houston to improve to 22-26 overall and 11-13 on the road. The White Sox trailed 3-2 through five innings before a six-run sixth inning gave them full control. Eloy Jimenez led the way offensively as he finished 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs, three runs scored and two RBIs. Charlie Tilson went 1-for-4 with a grand slam. Jose Abreu was 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Yoan Moncada went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Ivan Nova earned the win as he allowed three earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. Lucas Giolito will start tonight for Chicago as he enters with a 5-1 record, 3.35 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 50 strikeouts over 43 innings.
Cole stumbles, Astros fall
Houston lost by a count of 9-4 at home Wednesday night to drop to 33-17 overall and 18-5 at home. Alex Bregman helped pace the offense in the defeat as he was 2-for-3 with a solo home run plus a walk. Carlos Correa went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Robinson Chirinos ended the contest 2-for-3. Gerrit Cole suffered the loss as he surrendered six earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over five innings. Corbin Martin draws the start tonight for the Astros as he comes in with a 1-0 record, 3.86 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with nine strikeouts over 9 1/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Astros are 4-0 in the last four Giolito road starts. Chicago is 2-9 in its last 11 games versus the AL West.
Houston
The Astros are 23-8 in their last 31 home games. Houston is 9-1 in the last 10 meetings.
Prediction:
Aside from last night, Houston has dominated this series the last couple seasons. While the White Sox have the better and more experienced starting pitcher on the mound, Giolito has been prone to hiccups in the past and will be facing a powerful lineup on the road tonight. Martin will have the advantage of facing a lineup not familiar with him at the MLB level and he has shown he has the talent to pitch in the big leagues in his first two starts. It’s hard to envision a split here and I think Chicago is going to have to remain satisfied with its one win in four tries.
