Faber vs. Wineland Free Pick
Faber enters the fight as the clear favorite to win according to oddsmakers from online sportsbook Bodog.com as the former WEC featherweight champion has odds of -500 while Wineland, a former WEC bantamweight champion, has odds of +300. UFC 128 takes place from Prudential Center and will air live on Pay-Per-View at 10PM ET.
WHY PICK FABER
Faber (24-4) is one of the all-time great featherweight fighters in MMA history and now he is one win away from a potential bantamweight title fight. Faber is very fast with his movement and striking and also is a tremendous wrestler that has 13 wins by submission. Faber has the complete package and has only struggled with bigger, stronger fighters and current UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo. Faber should be the bigger fighter in this bout and his all-around skills will pose a lot of problems for Wineland, who hasn’t been in a fight of this caliber in quite some time.
WHY PICK WINELAND
Wineland (18-6-1) is a former champion in this weight class and currently on a four-fight win streak, but his opponents are not at the level of Faber. Still, Wineland is a scrapper that will fight with heart to make up for whatever natural talent he is lacking. He can knock Faber out with a good punch and has respectable skills on the ground, but he will either need to win the striking battle or put Faber on his back. This will also be the UFC debut for both fighters, so Wineland could find added motivation to get through his opponent.
WHO TO PICK?
To me Faber is just too well-rounded to lose this fight. With a match with Dominick Cruz, his rival, on the line, I expect Faber to have an impressive performance to earn a title fight. My pick is with him as I expect him to establish his jab early and then take the fight to the ground, where he will sink in a choke in the second round for his first-ever UFC victory.
