One of the oldest horses in the Breeders’ Cup Classic field, Einstein, looks to show the younger field what it can still do on Saturday from Santa Anita Park.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have given Einstein 12/1 odds to win. Zenyatta is the pre-race favorite at 3/1 while Gio Ponti, Quality Road and Richard’s Kid all have 12/1 odds.
Foaled in October of 2002, Einstein was sired by the 1985 American Horse of the Year, Spend A Buck. Einstein has raced in the U.S. since February of 2006 and holds major wins on every style of track.
This year, Einstein holds wins in the Turf Classic Stakes, the Santa Anita Handicap, and the Woodford Reserve. His win in the Santa Anita Handicap came on the same track and was the same distance of Saturday’s Classic.
Einstein will start from gate No. 8 during Saturday’s race and be ridden by jockey Julien Leparoux, who has won 194 races from 970 mounts. He has earned $11,486,232 in purses and ranks second to Ramon Dominguez among all North American jockeys.
Leparoux also has two Breeders’ Cup wins under his belt, with his last one coming when Forever Together defeated a top field in the 2008 Filly & Mare Turf. So if you’re looking for a veteran group to put your money on this week, then Einstein and Leparoux might be a sound bet at 12/1 odds.
The Breeders’ Cup Classic will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. For more information on this year’s race, check out our 2009 Breeders Cup Viewing Guide.
