Duke of Marmalade Odds
One of the long shots expected to give odds favorite Curlin some competition this Saturday at the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Classic Championship is the thoroughbred Duke of Marmalade.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have established Duke of Marmalade odds to win at 8/1.
Along with fellow Breeders’ Cup thoroughbred Henrythenavigator, Duke of Marmalade is a multiple Group 1 winner on grass in Europe this season. Had Santa Anita not switched to a new Pro-Ride synthetic surface, Duke of Marmalade might have had even better odds to win this Saturday than 8/1.
One concern for all thoroughbreds is the travel, but Duke of Marmalade head trainer Aidan O’Brien said that things went smoothly on the way to Santa Anita. “They all traveled well. Everything went according to plan so far. They trotted and they seemed to be lovely on it,” said O’Brien, who is the trainer for eight Breeders’ Cup horses.
Perhaps the top reason to make a play on Duke of Marmalade this Saturday is that he’s a proven Group 1 winner up to 1-1/2 miles. But he hasn’t raced well of late and seems to be fading with the close of the season. Duke of Marmalade could be a steal at 8/1, or might be easy to pass on come race day due to his dropping stock.
