According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Serena Williams is the favorite to win this event, as she has 3/2 odds. Other short odds to win are Maria Sharapova (6/1) and Simona Halep (7/1).

Williams has won the U.S. Open five times and is the two-time defending champion. She has won a total of 17 grand slam events, but has failed to make it past the fourth round in any grand slam event this year.

Sharapova won this event back in 2006. She has a total of five grand slam titles to her credit, including the 2014 French Open. She has only reached the finals in three of her last nine grand slam events.

Halep is seeking her first grand slam title of any kind in the U.S. Open. She has failed to make it out of the fourth round in her four previous U.S. Open appearances, but has reached the quarterfinals or better in all three grand slam tournaments this year.
