NEW YORK (TheSpread) – Novak Djokovic looks to close out his stellar 2011 with another grand slam championship when the U.S. Open gets started next Sunday.

According to oddsmakers, Djokovic is the favorite to win the men’s singles title of the U.S. Open. He has 1/1 odds to win. Other short odds to win are Roger Federer (4/1), Rafael Nadal (4/1), and Andy Murray (9/2).

Djokovic owns eight championships this year, but is coming off just his second loss on Sunday. He has to retire after injuring his shoulder. Djokovic has never won the U.S Open, but he has appeared in the semifinals the last four years. Djokovic has won two of the three majors this year and owns a total of three majors in his career.

Federer has one win on the year. He has won the U.S. Open five times in his career and appeared in the semifinals the last seven years. Federer has won a total of 16 grand slams, but has failed to win in his last six grand slam tournaments.

Nadal has three wins this year. He is the defending U.S. Open champion and has won four of the last six grand slam tournaments. He owns a total of 10 grand slam titles and has appeared in the semifinals of the U.S. Open the last three years.

Murray has two wins this year. He has yet to win a grand slam championship, but has appeared in the semifinals of the last three. He finished runner-up in the 2008 U.S. Open, but hasn’t made it to the quarterfinals in five of his six U.S. Open appearances.
