Yang upsets Woods

Y.E. Yang made history in more ways than one on Sunday, besting Tiger Woods to win the 2009 PGA Championship at Hazeltine in Chaska, Minn.

Yang shot a 2-under par 70 on Sunday to overcome a two-stroke deficit entering the final round against Woods. Woods shot a 3-over par 75 to lose a major championship for the first time when leading after three rounds.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL, Yang entered the tournament with 125/1 odds to win, meaning a $100 bet will pay out $12,500. Even entering Sunday’s final round just two shot behind Woods, Yang was still at 20/1 odds to win.

Yang is the first Asian-born player to win a major championship and did so with a chip-in for eagle on the 14th hole on Sunday, as well as a masterful second shot on the par-four 18th hole to set up a birdie putt to win the championship.

Woods entered the tournament at 3/2 odds to win and his odds were as great at 1/5 to win following the second round. Woods couldn’t hit a big putt on Sunday and finished with bogies on the final two holes. Woods misses out on winning a major for the year for the first time since 2004.

Padraig Harrington, who entered the tournament with 20/1 odds to win, finished tied for 10th after a final round 78.
