WGC-Bridgestone Odds

The 2009 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational is the final warm-up event for professional golfers before the final major of the year, The PGA Championship.

The Bridgestone Invitational starts on Thursday, Aug. 6 from Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio and the world’s top player, Tiger Woods, is once again the favorite to win the tournament.

Bet the 2009 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational

Woods is a 3/2 favorite to win the WGC event according to the online sports book SBGGLOBAL. Other short odds for the Bridgestone Invitational are Phil Mickelson (16/1), Retief Goosen (28/1), Jim Furyk (28/1), and Lee Westwood (28/1).

Woods is coming off a win last week at the Buick Open, his fourth of 2009 and 13th in his last 23 events. Woods is a six-time winner of this event, with his last win coming in 2007. After an embarrassing performance at the British Open by Woods’ standards, where he missed the cut, the PGA Championship next week is his last chance to win a major championship this year. Expect Woods to be on his game in the final tune-up before the last major.

Mickelson has not played since the U.S. Open on June 22. Mickelson left golf to be with his wife, who was battling breast cancer. Mickelson returns a week prior to the PGA Championship in hopes to be at his best for the final major. Mickelson has two wins in 2009 and five top five finishes.

Goosen has finished no worse than sixth in his last four events and not missed a cut in his last six. Goosen placed fourth at the 2008 Bridgestone Invitational and has two wins in 2009.

Furyk has made his last eight cuts, but is still searching for his first win since July of 2007. Furyk has seven top 10 finishes in 2009.

Westwood is coming off a third place finish at the 2009 British Open and has only missed one cut in 15 events this year. Westwood took second at the 2008 Bridgestone Invitational and was 22nd in the 2007 event.
