The Americans seem to be the specialists in the pool for this Olympics as many are favored in the non-freestyle events.

American Missy Franklin is the clear favorite to win the 100 Backstroke (7/4 odds) and 200 Backstroke (2/5). Franklin also has short odds in the 200 Freestyle (5/2) but is not favored in that event. Despite being just 17 years old, Franklin is the current world record holder in the 200 backstroke and she holds the all-time American records in both backstroke events. She is the current world champion in the 200 backstroke.

Another American, Rebecca Soni is the clear favorite to claim gold in the breaststroke events. She has 1/3 odds to win the 100 Breaststroke and 2/9 odds to win gold in the 200 Breaststroke. Soni is 25 years old and entering her second Olympic games. She won the gold in the 200 breaststroke and silver in the 100 breaststroke back at the 2008 Olympics. She currently is the world champion in both breaststroke events and has the world record in both events as well.

Two other Americans enter the Olympics as a favorite to win gold. Dana Vollmer is listed as the favorite in the 100 Butterfly (11/10) while Elisabeth Beisel is the favorite in the 400 Individual Medley (4/5).

The 2012 Summer Olympics will take place from London, England from July 27 through August 12 of this summer. For the complete odds for each Women’s individual swimming event, see below.
