Open Updated Odds
The 2008 British Open Championship moves to the fourth and final round Sunday July 20. Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have established Padraig Harrington and Greg Norman as 3/1 favorites to win the 137th British Open.
The Favorites: Padraig Harrington, Greg Norman
Oddsmakers have made 2007 British Open defending champion Padraig Harrington as a 3/1 favorite. Harrington currently sits at +4 over par after shooting 74 in Round 1, 68 in Round 2 and 72 in Round 3 for a total score of 214. Harrington’s opening odds were 16/1.
Only one golfer has a better score than Harrington and that’s Australian pro Greg Norman, who also has 3/1 odds to win the 2008 British Open Championship. Norman currently sits at 212 after shooting a 70 in Round 1, 70 in Round 2 and 72 in Round 3.
The Values: K.J. Choi, Simon Wakefield
K.J. Choi will enter the final round at 214, same as Harrington. Choi opened at 66/1 to win, but now has 4/1 odds to win the 2008 British Open Championship. The Korean golfer has shot a 72, 67 and 75, respectively.
Simon Wakefield might be the best value at 22/1 odds to win the 2008 British Open Championship. Wakefield is just three strokes behind the leader Norman and just finished his best round at 70 in Round 3. He had a 71 in Round 1 and 74 in Round 2.
The Sleeper Long Shot: Sergio Garcia
While Sergio Garcia currently has a +9 over par, he’s still a tremendous long shot sleeper based on his opening and updated odds. Oddsmakers made him an 8/1 favorite at the opening of the British Open, yet now has 20/1 odds to win. If he comes to play in the final round, he might be a outstanding value bet.
