Woods is a 9/2 favorite to win according to oddsmakers from online sports book Other short odds to win are Phil Mickelson (10/1), Justin Rose (15/1), Ernie Els (15/1), and Lee Westwood (15/1). Woods has won three British Open titles in his career, two of which have come at St. Andrews. Woods has 14 major championships and has finished in the top six of five of the last six majors. Woods hasn’t finished in the top 10 of the British Open since 2006 and is winless in 2010 with just two top 10’s.

Past Winners

Stewart Cink won the 2009 British Open, his first major championship. Prior to that, Padraig Harrington won the title in 2008 and 2007. Cink has 80/1 odds to win this time around while Harrington comes in at 20/1. The last player aside from Woods to win this title at St. Andrews was John Daly in 1995. Daly has 200/1 odds to win this year.

World Rankings

Woods is the top-ranked golfer in the world but due to his recent struggles, Phil Mickelson is inching closer. Mickelson has never won the British Open and his best finish is third in 2004. It is his lone top-10 finish in the Open Championship. Westwood is the top-ranked European, as he is third in the world rankings. Westwood has one win and eight top 10’s in 2010. Westwood has three top 10’s in the British Open, including third in 2009.

The 2010 British Open Championship (also referred to as The Open Championship or simply, The Open) takes place July 15 this year and runs through July 18. The event is played at the Old Course at St. Andrews in the United Kingdom and it’s a par 72. The official yardage for the 2010 event is 7,279 yards and the format is a stroke play.
