Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Odds
CONEY ISLAND, NY (The Spread) - As tradition on the Fourth of July in America, Joey Chestnut and contestants will compete today in the 2013 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Chestnut is currently favored to win today's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest at -1000 odds, while "Any Other Eater" has odds of +600. The over/under for how many hot dogs the winner will eat is currently sitting at 63 dogs.
It's a surprise to no one that has paid attention to this contest that Chestnut is the clear favorite. He's won the event six consecutive years in a row, including last year when he ate 68 dogs to tie his previous record set in 2009. He also became the third person to win six consecutive titles.
In 2011, Chestnut dominated by eating 62 hot dogs, which were eight more than he had in 2010 when he won the event. That year, Takeru Kobayashi was present but had refused to sign a contract with Major League Eating and did not compete. After the contest, Kobayashi was involved in a scuffle with police and was led away in handcuffs.
Speaking of Kobayashi, he won the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest for six straight years from 2001 to 2006 before Chesnut broke the U.S. record with 66 hot dogs in 2007. In 2011, separate competitions were held for women and men for the first time. Since crowning a woman champion, Sonya Thomas has won back-to-back titles in the women's competition.
