Spain beats Italy, wins Euro 2012
KIEV (The Spread)– Spain had no issues dealing with Italy in the Final Match of Euro 2012, as The Red Fury won Euro 2012 with a 4-0 victory on Sunday.
Silva, Alba, Torres and Mata all scored in the Final match today for Spain in The Red Fury’s victory over Italy, which was shut out for the first time since its 0-0 draw with England in the quarter-finals. (Italy went on to win that match 4-2 in penalties.)
At the start of Euro 2012, Spain was an 11/4 favorite to win the entire tournament. Germany, which was beaten by Italy in the semi-finals, was 3/1 while Italy opened as a 10/1 mid-range long shot. France was 8/1, Holland was 10/1, Russia was 11/1 and England was 12/1.

Both Spain and Italy came out of Group C to eventually meet in the Final match. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the first meeting on June 10, while The Red Fury went on to crush the Republic of Ireland 4-0 and shut out Croatia 1-0 to advance to the Knockout phase. Italy, meanwhile, followed its 1-1 draw with Spain to play to another 1-1 draw with Croatia before earning its first victory of Euro 2012 with a 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland.
In the quarter-finals, Spain knocked off France 2-0 while Italy played to a 0-0 draw with England and then advanced on penalties (4-2). Spain then beat Portugal 4-2 on penalties in the semi-finals while Italy pulled off a surprising 2-1 win over Germany. But clearly Italy wasn’t the team of destiny that some had suggested.
