According to oddsmakers, Australia is the favorite to take home the gold in men’s field hockey, as they have odds of +135 to win. Other short odds to win gold are Germany (+350) and Holland (+450).
Australia last won gold in this event in 2004, but they won the bronze in 2008, 2000, and 1996. 2004 was the only time that Australia claimed gold in this event.
Germany is the defending gold medal winner. The Germans also took bronze in 2004 and won gold back in 1992 while claiming silver in 1984 and 1988.
Holland won silver in this sport back in 2004, but finished fourth in the 2008 Olympics. Holland was the gold medal winner in 1996 and 2000.
