According to oddsmakers, Brazil is the favorite to claim gold in this event, as they have odds of +200 to win. Other short odds to win are Spain (+275) and Great Britain (+600).

Surprisingly, Brazil has never won the gold medal in men’s soccer. They finished with the bronze in 2008 and 1996. Brazil has won the World Cup five times, with the last coming in 2002.

Spain won gold back in 1992 and silver in 2000, but has failed to gain a medal in the last two Olympics. Spain is the defending World Cup champion back in 2010.

Great Britain has the home-field advantage in this tournament, but the country hasn’t won gold in this event since 1912, and also hasn’t medaled in men’s soccer since 1912.
