Costa Rica vs. Switzerland Prediction

World Cup: Costa Rica vs. Switzerland 6/27/18, Prediction & Odds

As long as Switzerland gets a win or a draw today against Costa Rica it will advance to the knockout stage of the World Cup, while a Serbia loss to Brazil would also get the job done. Is Switzerland a strong bet today to notch the win?

Public Betting Information

According to oddsmakers, Switzerland is a -164 favorite to win on the moneyline. Costa Rica is a +550 underdog, while a draw bet is set at +260. The over-under sits at 2.5 goals.

Costa Rica has bags packed

After losing its first two games, Costa Rica has no shot at advancing in the tournament. It played Brazil very impressively last game to the tune of a 0-0 score into extra time before the Brazilians broke through with a pair of goals to win 2-0. Costa Rica only held 31 percent of the possession and registered four shots, none being on goal. The Costa Ricans committed 11 fouls and were handed one yellow card.

Switzerland wins late vs. Serbia

Switzerland put itself in strong position to move on in the World Cup as a 90th minute goal courtesy of Xherdan Shaqiri in the 90th minute propelled the Swiss to the 2-1 victory. Switzerland fell behind 1-0 in the fifth minute, but withstood the storm and eventually tied it at 1-1 in the 52nd minute on a score by Granit Xhaka. Switerland held 58 percent of the possession, registering 20 shots (five on goal). The winning squad was called for 12 fouls including one yellow card. Switzerland also generated seven corner kicks.

Costa Rica was completely overmatched by Brazil and yet somehow kept it clean on the scoresheet until extra time. Meanwhile, Switzerland outplayed Serbia much of its match. These two squads are on the opposite spectrum of form right now, so I believe betting on the favored Swiss would be the smart move in this spot.
