Public Betting Information

According to oddsmakers, Columbia is a +125 favorite to win on the moneyline. Poland is a +225 underdog, while a draw is listed at +235. The over-under is set at 2.5 goals.

Sanchez mistake dooms Columbia

A deliberate hand ball in the penalty box by Columbia's Carlos Sanchez resulted in a red card for him, putting his squad a man down the rest of the way against Japan. Even worse, Japan converted on the ensuing penalty kick to take a 1-0 advantage. Columbia showed resilience as it evened the game at 1-1 in the 39th minute on a goal by Juan Quintero. But even a draw was not to be for the Columbians as Japan netted the game-winner in the 73rd minute to record a 2-1 victory. Columbia had only 42 percent of the possession and had eight shots with three being on goal. Japan tallied 14 shots (Six on goal). Columbia committed 15 fouls with two yellow cards plus the red card.

Poland done in by mistakes

An own goal by Poland's Thiago Cionek in the 37th minute put his squad down 1-0 in its Group G opener versus Senegal. A controversial goal in the 60th minute pushed the deficit to 2-0, while Poland could only get as close as 2-1 with a score by Grzegprz Krychowiak in the 86th minute. Poland outplayed Senegal in many aspects of the game, amassing 59 percent of the possession and putting in 10 shots (four on goal compared to eight shots (two on goal) for Senegal. Poland only commited eight fouls and was handed one foul.

Prediction:

Columbia seems to have some discipline issues as the Sanchez red card showed. It was an unnecessary hand ball, especially so early in the match. Poland outplayed Senegal and as long as it cleans up its mistakes, I like their chances to score the upset win here.
