CANADA (TheSpread) – The Women’s World Cup is down to its final eight teams. Which one will emerge as the winner of it all over the next handful of days?
According to the latest oddsmakers, Germany is now favored to win with 13/8 odds. The United States comes in with 2/1 odds while France and Japan each have 6/1 odds to win.
Germany started the World Cup by going 2-0-1 in pool play with a +14 goal differential. It then went on to beat Sweden in the first round of the knockout stage and will now face France in the quarterfinals. Germany is a two-time World Cup winner, last winning in 2007.
The Americans went 2-0-1 in group play with a +3 goal differential. The U.S. beat Colombia, 2-0, in the opening round of the knockout stage. It will face China in the quarterfinals. The U.S. has won two World Cups, last winning in 1999.
Japan went 3-0-0 in group play with a goal differential of +3. Japan beat the Netherlands, 2-1, in the knockout stage, setting up a match with Australia in the quarters. Japan is the defending Women’s World Cup champ.
France went 2-1-0 in group play with a +4 goal differential. France beat South Korea, 3-0, in the knockout stage. It will face Germany in the quarterfinals. France has never won the Women’s World Cup.
