Travelers Champ Odds

After a hectic couple of days at Bethpage Park last weekend for the U.S. Open, the PGA Tour shifts gears to TPC River Highlands Thursday for the 2009 Travelers Championship.

With consistent favorites Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson taking the week off, oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING have made Hunter Mahan a 12/1 favorite to win this year’s Travelers Championship.

Mahan joins Sergio Garcia (16/1), Kenny Perry (20/1), Zach Johnson (20/1) and Vijay Singh (20/1) as the golfers with the top 5 best odds to win the 2009 Travelers Championship, which tees off on Thursday, June 24.

Mahan hasn’t had a ton of success in major championships, but he did rack up his first and only PGA Tour victory at the 2007 Travelers Championship, which is why oddsmakers have made him the opening favorite. In 15 events this season, Mahan has 683 points and three top-10 finishes.

At 20/1 odds, Johnson and Perry seem to offer the best value this week. In 16 events this season, Johnson has 1,609 points and five top-10 finishes, while Perry has 1,374 points and six top-10 finishes. Both would be strong plays this weekend with Woods and Mickelson sitting out.

The 2009 Travelers Championship starts Thursday, June 25 at 7:00 a.m. ET. The event will take place at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut and for complete odds on all of the golfers in this year’s event, see below.
