France outlasts Australia on own goal
France took a 1-0 advantage against Australia in its World Cup opener on an Antoine Griezmann penalty kick goal, but the opposition added a PK goal of its own shortly thereafter to even the score at 1-1. The decisive moment came when Australia’s Aziz Behich put in an own goal in the 80th minute to send France to the 2-1 triumph. France held 51 percent of the possession and managed five corner kicks, while forcing Australia into four saves.
Peru loses tough one to Denmark
In its Group C opener, Peru mostly played well but a 59th minute score by Denmark was the game’s only goal and forces the Peruvians into a must-win situation today against the group favorite. Peru held 52 percent of the possession and forced Denmark to make six saves, recording 17 shots total. Denmark had 10 total shots, with three being on goal.
Prediction:
I don’t think there is much doubt France has the talent to see Peru off, but can it find the chemistry and make it happen without getting some extra help? This will be an interesting challenge considering Peru showed it is a tough out last match, but ultimately I think France carves out a win here.
