Westwood vs. Els
Two of the hottest golfers in the 2010 golf season are Lee Westwood and Ernie Els. Which of these two international players will perform better at the 2010
For this head-to-head pairing, Westwood is considered the favorite and he is coming of a win in his last outing.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, Westwood has a money line of -170 while Els has a line of +130. Here is a look at both golfers heading into this tournament, which takes place from
Lee Westwood -170:
Westwood has been on a tear in 2010 as he has one win, two runner-ups, five top 5’s, and eight top 10’s in 13 events. Westwood is coming off a win in the St. Jude Classic and he also finished second in the Masters in April. Westwood’s best finish in a U.S. Open was third in 2008, but he did finish fifth in the 2000 U.S. Open, which was also in
Ernie Els +130:
Els has two wins on the year but has struggled recently, missing the cut in two of his last four outings. In the U.S. Open, Els has almost always been a contender. He won the event in 1994 and 1997 while finishing in the top 10 in five other events, including a second-place finish in the 2000 Open at
Who will win: You would be hard pressed to find anyone playing better golf than Lee Westwood right now, but our gut likes Els because of his consistency at the U.S. Open. With Westwood coming off a win, it is hard to see him winning this event while Els is looking to bounce back from a poor showing. Both should make the cut and be in the hunt at some point, but we ultimately like Els for his steadiness and patience in a mentally draining tournament.
