Harrington vs. Stricker

Padraig Harrington and Steve Stricker have not made waves in the golf world recently but the two are still among the favorites to win the 2010 U.S. Open.

In head-to-head competition, oddsmakers like Stricker to get the best of Harrington.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL, Stricker has a money line of -160 while Harrington has a line of +120. Here is a look at both golfers heading into this tournament, which takes place from Pebble Beach in Pebble Beach, California and begins on Thursday.

Steve Stricker -160:
Stricker was ranked second in the world early in the year, but has fallen back to fourth as he has finished in the top 10 in just one of his last six events. Still, Stricker has one win and four top 10’s on the year and he hasn’t missed a single cut. In his career, Stricker has three top 10’s in the U.S. Open, with the last coming in 2006 when he finished sixth. Stricker has finished in the top 30 in the last four U.S. Opens and in the 2000 Open at Pebble Beach, he placed 27th.
Padraig Harrington +120:
Despite winning three majors in 2007 and 2008 combined, Harrington hasn’t been able to build much momentum since then. He has just one top-10 finish in his last majors and he has missed two cuts during that stretch. In the 2010 season, Harrington has missed three cuts and has just four top 10’s. His best finish came at the WGC-CA Championship where he took third. In U.S. Open play, Harrington has four top 10’s, with his best finish being fifth in 2006 and 2000.

Who will win: Harrington has not been on top of his game this year and while Stricker hasn’t either, his lows have been much better than Harrington’s. Don’t count on either of these two to win the tournament, but we like Stricker to be competitive and finish better than his counter part in Harrington.
