Prime Cut Updated Belmont Odds
(The Spread) – As we closer to Saturday’s post time, Prime Cut’s odds are improving for the 2011 Belmont Stakes.
Prime Cut opened as a 20/1 long shot for the Belmont Stakes but is now 15/1 according to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog. Those odds put him in the same group as Brilliant Speed and Santiva, who are also 15/1 to win, respectively.
In seven career outings, Prime Cut has never finished lower than fourth (which came in his debut in June of last year). He finished third at the Grade 2 Peter Pan, second at the Grade 3 Coolmore Lexington Stakes and won an allowance on March 26 of this year.
After a fourth-place showing a year ago in his debut at Churchill Downs, Prime Cut developed a lung infection that kept him out of training for several months. In returned in October and broke his maiden at the Fair Grounds on December 12, finishing third. Now he’s one of the sleeper contenders for the 2011 Belmont.
After sitting out of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, Prime Cut should be well-rested to take on the 1.5-mile track at Belmont Park this evening.
